A Technique To Mount A Magnesium Anode On A Reservoir

Magnesium anodes (for example, Lider) serve to protect the steel constructions against corrosion in soil, as well as in sea, river, water bottoms, lake and soil waters. In its design, anode PRM is MP-1 magnesium alloy ingot. Prior the works the reservoir in questions should be thoroughly cleaned from oil products, steamed and checked for harmful impurities in air medium. The norm for gas-polluted air is max 1%.

Mounting steps

Способ монтажа протектора марки ПРМ на резервуар To mount a magnesium anode on one of the construction's walls, the following works should be performed:
    1. The surface is prepared. Mounting place is thoroughly cleaned from corrosion and dirt.
    2. A steel rod is welded in a bottom perpendicular manner.
    3. The cleaned area is coated with insulation (for example, epoxy coating EP-00-10) or other epoxy composition. Along with that, it is necessary to check the documents of the project and to see whether the applied composition is allowed to be used.
    4. A protective construction is installed on soft coating. Therefore, we see a water tight contact with the base.
    5. A contacting gland is welded to a contacting rod. A spacing between them is filled with insulation composition.
    6. When everything is mounted, the construction is tested. This is done during its usage. To do this, the electrolyte - reservoir potential, as well as current power in an anode-reservoir circuit are measured.
Anode protection works as follows: protective potential is generated when current flows in a galvanic construction - anode couple. Current running from an anode construction flows through electrolyte, gets to a construction and limits (suppresses) corrosion on its surface. This prevents corrosive destruction of the reservoir.   The number of the required magnesium anodes and their arrangement on the walls and bottom depends on space and operating modes of the reservoirs. The anodes are arranged strictly in accordance with the project.
  • The anodic protection serves
  • to control and to adjust the current power of the anodes;
  • to check the efficiency of the anodic protection;
  • to replace worn-out elements from time to time;
  • to analyze all construction with regard to corrosion.
Worn-out protectors are replaced with new ones during inspection repairs in accordance with maintenance schedule. All measurements should be performed with a reservoir filled with process medium. Measurements are made at least once a month. EHZ-CENTER offers you to buy the equipment to repair and to protect the reservoirs against corrosion. We manufacture and sell equipment of high quality.
